The Calgary Horticultural Society is seeking outstanding individuals in the Calgary region to serve on the Board of Directors for our organization. As one of the oldest charitable organizations in Calgary, the Society has served the community well in educating and promoting gardening in our challenging climate.
DIRECTOR POSITION OPENINGS:
The Board of Directors for the Calgary Horticultural Society requires interested individuals to serve as Directors preferably with previous governance board experience for non-profit organizations. This volunteer role requires a minimum two-year term commitment as well as availability for approximately ten hours per month to attend meetings and work on various board sub-committees. Of particular interest are applicants with specialized skills in professional Human Resources Management, Executive Management and Administration, and Fund Development.Support for our mission and organizational goals are key.
THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS:
On behalf of its members, the Calgary Horticultural Society Board of Directors is responsible for governance and financial accountability of the organization. The Board ensures the Society adheres to its mandate through providing effective strategic direction, and guidance and oversight of the Executive Director. Additionally, Board Members are expected to advocate in the community for the Society and to be good Ambassadors on behalf of the organization, its members, staff and volunteers.

The Society has over 500 volunteers and approximately 4000 members who share a passion for not only gardening, but for the city of Calgary. Since it’s inception, the Society has seen our prairie city grow more beautiful with stunning garden parks, green spaces and trees. A number of exciting new projects are in the offing for the Society including a key role in the design and development of LRT station gardens. While the opportunity to be part of creative infrastructure legacy is a responsibility we take seriously, the Board of Directors also aims to promote these projects with a sense of fun, inquisitiveness and adventure.
